Martin of Holland, next to being S&M pioneer and founder of the notorious and legendary scatparty culture, he was one of the early European post WWII homo-erotic art pioneers. He worked and published together with his friends ; Tom of Finland, Willem Kok and Bastille. Sadly nothing of his early artwork remains ( only pictures ) because it was all confiscated and destroyed by law-enforcement when he was arrested in the mid sixties, days when it was illegal in Holland to produce and distribute such works, although confiscation is still known to happen with not-middle-of-the-road homo-art in ‘tolerant’ 21st century Netherlands. Luckily Martin proved a pinnacle of defiance’s, upon release from jail when the law changed, he restarted drawing immediately with an unprecedented filthy vengeance. For the first time the appointed custodian of his art-heritage, local friends and fellow international promotors of homo-erotic art present the highlights of his oeuvre in a decent and respectable salon-table book, as he would have grinned at. most of his work is in colour but normally published in gay magazines in black and white. Martin of Holland’s art appeals to very specific tastes, and to call it extreme might be a bit of an understatement. His passion for the subject matter and unflinching imagination set him apart from those who crave social approval or critical adulation. In a time when so many new and established Gay and erotic artist are trying to ’tastefully tone it down’, Martin’s work stands apart as both fiercely creative and proudly uncompromised. Though many in his home country are unfamiliar with his works, his impact on one of the most socially progressive countries in the world was profound. As last individual in The Netherlands to be arrested and incarcerated for producing and distributing his own pornography in the 1950s and 60s, the civil rig?????
